"You Asked and We Listened"

With a simple step yesterday, the new Republican majority in the U.S. House showed that things are no longer business as usual in Congress.

For the first time in the history of the institution, the Constitution was read aloud on the floor of the U.S. House. From the preamble to the Bill of Rights and through all of the amendments, our nation’s founding document was read aloud by members of Congress from both parties.

A hallmark of the Pelosi Congress was its effort to enact its policy goals by any means necessary, and whether the programs were constitutional or not. The most egregious example is the federal takeover of health care that dictates that individual citizens purchase health insurance, a product, from a private company. Already, a federal district judge has ruled this provision of ObamaCare unconstitutional and more than 20 states have joined legal challenges against the federal takeover.

Preventing these kinds of abuses is the reason it was so important to have the Constitution read aloud in Congress yesterday – and it is the reason that the new Republican leadership requires each new bill introduced to include a statement explaining from which part of the Constitution the legislation would gain its authority.

For too long under the Pelosi Congress the Constitution was viewed as a roadblock to get around rather than the foundation of the rights and liberties we enjoy as Americans. By having the Constitution read on the floor of the House, the new Republican majority showed they will respect our nation’s founding document. Through their actions over the next two years, they will show they mean to put that respect into action to protect the freedoms of every American.

No not legalizing it.  This person lived in,  I think,in Minnesota and her state was putting it on the ballot to legalize it as Medical Marijuana.  I think she wanted to know the cons of it.  I live in California, and I can tell you we were bamboozled with this law.  Anyway, I went back a few  blogs to see if I could find her and send this to her, but I think that posting is gone. So, I am hoping she keeps up with new blogs and sees/reads this. My point is, we legalized it as medical marijuana and crime is just as bad or worse. Hold ups at the collective centers or people being killed who grow a plant or two for medical purpose, plus many homes in nice neighborhoods from million dollar homes to apartments are being turned into green houses to grow pot, and the neighbors don’t even know until the house starts on fire because of faulty electricity rigged for the growing.  A lot of teenagers are getting it with fraud medical prescriptions written out by fake doctors. Real doctors don't issue medical prescriptions for medical marijuana.  They refuse to.  One pays $150- and one can get a prescription.  That's all it takes and there is no tracking of who is buying the drug.  You can buy Marijuana butter, cake/brownies, salad dressing, cookies- UGH! Last, a child as young as 12  can buy it as long as they have prescriptions. A girl can get one if she has menstrual cramps.  Out of control!!!

I went to my town’s city planner and he stated to me that their hands were tied because of the law.  The people who open these collective centers let people smoke right there inside the business. I know because when I saw one open around the corner from my mom's home, I stopped in front of the business to see what it was, opened the front door, and OMG pot smoke, THICK, and came out as soon as I  opened that door. Two young men ( very healthy looking ) came out stoned smiling and drove away in their beautiful new truck.  I was a little angry, and I gave the owner  of that business a piece of my mind, and he stated he had a right to open that business, and the city planner agreed. He did because of our law, which is  a disaster! Don't believe the false arguments when it comes to your nearest ballot.

By the way, let's protect the first amendment " Freedom of Speech"!  Don't let the democratic congress blame what happen over the weekend  on us common sense Americans by enforcing laws to limit our speech!   Protect the constitution and all the amendments!

I said TMI so sorry for the long winded letter style blog!!!

Have a good night Daria and keep up the good work girl!

There is a lot the potheads don't want us to know including how heavy usage by males can impact the DNA of their offspring and cause severe problems. "Real Change" - out of curiosity, who here was advocating for legalization of pot last month?

This is to the  blogger who asked a month ago in regards that her state were putting to vote to legalize Marajuana.

Attached is an article I saved that states how dangerous Marajuana today is very dangerous, especially Skunk Weed or resin from the pot.  It does cause psychosis and severe mental illness, and the shooter  this weekend was a heavy smoker of Marajuana.  Attached is an article from Reuters a few years back.

Smoking skunk raises risk of pyschosis, study finds

By Kate Kelland
LONDON (Reuters) - People who smoke "skunk" -- a potent form of cannabis -- are almost seven times more likely to develop psychotic illnesses such as schizophrenia than those who smoke "hash" or cannabis resin, according to research.
Scientists from King's College London's institute of psychiatry said their study was the first to look specifically at skunk, rather than normal cannabis, and suggested high levels of tretrahydrocannabinol, or THC, were to blame for the drug's effect on mental health.
"The risk of psychosis is much greater among people who are frequent cannabis users, especially among those using skunk, rather than among occasional users of traditional hash," said Marta di Forti, the psychiatrist who led the study.
Di Forti and colleagues, whose work was published in the British Journal of Psychiatry Tuesday, studied 280 patients who had experienced a first psychotic episode and 174 healthy people from the area of London where the research was conducted.
They found that those who had been diagnosed with psychosis serious enough to last a week and warrant admission to hospital were twice as likely to have used cannabis for longer than five years and more than six times more likely to use it every day.
And among all those who had used cannabis -- from both the healthy group and the psychotic group -- those with psychosis were almost seven times more likely to use skunk, a finding the researchers described as "striking."
The potential dangers of cannabis sparked a row between British politicians and scientists last month after the government sacked its chief drugs adviser for arguing that cannabis was no more harmful than alcohol..
Previous studies have suggested smoking cannabis can double the risk of developing psychosis, Di Forti said, but hers is the first to look at skunk -- a drug she said was now taking over from cannabis resin in the illegal drug trade in many countries.
The two main constituents of cannabis are THC -- the psychoactive ingredient which can produce psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions and paranoia -- and cannabidiol.
The researchers said cannabidiol appeared to have anti-psychotics properties and could be counteracting the THC.
Skunk traded illegally in southeast London, where the study was carried out, has around 12 to 18 percent THC and 1.5 percent cannabidiol, while regular cannabis resin has an average THC of around 3.4 percent and an equal amount of cannabidiol.
"It seems that with hash the equal amounts of THC and cannabidiol may be reducing the effect, but with skunk that balance is not there," Di Forti told Reuters after a briefing.
"Unfortunately skunk is displacing traditional cannabis preparations in many countries," she said, adding that while skunk had been more expensive than hash in the past, it was now selling for a similar price -- under 5 pounds ($8.24) a gram.

I agree with you"real change." The family is the basic social unit that provides stability in our society, etc. for all of us in America. When the underpinnings of the U.S. are removed we fail as a people and become dependent on a the government.

The "sexual revolution," while allowing some good freedoms, destroyed much of what was right in this country in many ways. We probably could fix a lot of what is wrong if we returned to the traditional extended family.  Even if we live miles apart technology today allows us to easily hook up with each other.

Another "sick" statistic is the 60% abortion rate for African American women in NYC. The city, in general, is twice the national average from what I just read. Two parent homes are best and needed.

If we are to change then we need churches to be more active in our lives, too. We need to understand that there is something greater than our own wants and desires and that waiting for gratification is better than always instantaneously getting whatever one desires.

Those who seek to destroy America do it by demeaning the values that made us great. The media and entertainment industries speak to the lowest common denominator and then say they are giving us freedom.  It isn't freedom, it is another word for enslavement to carnal desire. We have some characteristic traits in our society that are similar to those found to exist before the fall of Rome, but others that differ.  We can alter the course of politics and our society.  But, it will take strong leaders who are not afraid of being ostracized and criticized for saying we need to be moral individuals. We need to stand up and speak out when something is wrong. Somehow porn and depravity are "in" and marriage and stable family relationships are challenged.

If we destroy the family in America it makes way for a dictatorship of the state in which the government controls every facet of our lives because it will tell us, we are not capable of running our own. I am not willing to stand by while this happens. We can change our future.

Here is some good news. The younger generation is more conservative. They are concerned about the trends and are making better choices than their older peers. We must support them as they struggle to alter the world in which they will be adults. Already I see the pressures my 13 and 14-year-old face at school and with other children.  They are strong and know right from wrong, but it takes constant vigilance and parents telling children "No" even when the kids say they hate you at the moment. We should be their parents, not their friends when they are young.

I don't know when we started being afraid to stand up for God and country, but that day marks the start of the decline of the greatest nation ever formed by man. We have big choices to make about where we want to head and who we ant to be in America.  Many people are thinking about it now and that in itself is a positive sign. It is critical that what we must occurs before more than 50% of the population goes on the government dole, as it will then be very hard to turn it around when those who take freely off the backs of workers will outnumber them.

This is why voting is so important!

Daria,

Yesterday morning there was a report on the "News" about the changes on the census. The News stated that 41% of all children born today in our country come from SINGLE MOMS. If we want to preserve our Constitution, our conservative values, and culture, we need to change how children are born here in this country. Why in  today's time young men and women won't marry, can't marry or choose to not marry and choose to do their own thing whatever it may be? When we have citizens being raised on cluelessness of  a weak family structure, values, education system, parent's who can't teach and bring up their children with a core of decency and right from wrong with a concious, then we lose who we are.  We need to change how we see ourselves with strong families and a Nation. Otherwise, we become more and more disassembled as a nation because we are lost of who we are.  To up hold the constitution, we can't keep going down the path we are going with our future citizens.

Diane, I went to a statewide Republican meeting last Sat. in CT and we had about 300 people there, despite an earlier storm storm.  (For CT that's a huge number.) The majority of those present were on the Tea Party email list in our state as they raised their hands and said so when asked.  Even in CT we have a solid conservative core of constitutionalists. Although we are a smaller Republican Party than in most other states, we are making a big comeback.  With it, we are returning to our roots and our belief in the treasure we have in our U.S. Constitution.

It actually was very interesting Saturday as one person stood and asked how many in the room believed in God. All but about 2 of over 300 pairs of hands went up. The lady then stated that the Tea Party and the Republican Party now have found something in common and a place to start.  I loved it!

Sometimes other politicians are wary when I stand up and use the words God and country, or even the US Constitution, in the same sentence, but that is changing even in New England.  We are the natural majority in America, but have become complacent. "Tea" woke us up and now the Republican Party needs to recognize what people want and to lead the nation toward more prosperous times.

We will see our greatness reach even higher levels than in the past if we follow our Constitution respectfully, and understand that each of us is free and we have God-given rights that no government can take away.

Each day I wake up and recommit myself to this battle. We are at war, politically, with those who would steal and squander those rights guaranteed and bequeathed to us in our Constitution.  To save this land and our way of life we must teach about what this document means, why it is ageless, and how we can use it to remain a free people.

Everyone here contributes when they bring this topic up for discussion because we cannot let the next generation forget about why America is different from other nations. Our youth and new citizens must know more than the title of this great document.

I taught political science at the university level for years, so when I say this please understand I truly mean it.  I attended a "Making of America" seminar and it was the best class I have sat in on in more than a decade. It is offered around the country by the Center for Constitutional Studies for more than 20 years now. One can go on their web site and read about it at http://www.nccs.net/seminars

You can bring these seminars to you location at almost no cost. (The seminar itself is about $15 for a whole day per person). They are underwritten to a large extent by the Center. The facilitator will teach about the Constitution in a fun and informative way that makes one wish it was a two-day, not a one-day course.  I highly recommend it to all here. We have brought several into CT and often sign up over 100 people at a time!

If you can't go to a seminar PLEASE consider getting the book, "The 5,000 Year Leap," as it tells all about the Founding Fathers, and the start of our country and the US Constitution in an easy to read and relevant way. I love the book.  It is put out by the Center, too. You get a copy and a workbook when you take the seminar included in the price tag.

By putting out this information I hope it helps other Americans to understand why we are so great, how can can continue on our path to even broader leadership in the world and higher goals. The United States is a nation blessed by God, populated by good people, and at the precipice of choosing to reach up to the next level or to be condemned to live with our unrecognized mistakes. I believe in us and think we are ready for another leap upward.

I'm with you Darla Novak, I'm a Conservatives . I believe in God and love of my family and country. And I want to conserve it all.

Comment by Daria Novak on January 11, 2011 at 12:02am

Sylvia, we are conservatives in the Republican Party... for the most part.  The true definition of conservative (to conserve) means to retain something of value. We Republicans believe in keeping our freedom, individual rights, freedom of speech, etc. It doesn't mean avoiding policy that is new if it is good policy. Progressives tend to dismiss that which our Founding Fathers gifted to us and to ignore individual liberty and prosperity.  I used to think of progressive as "progress" but they are not. That movement leads to a downward spiral into tyranny by government.

Probably there always will be mental illness.  It isn't confined to any geographic, age group, political persuasion or gender.  The illness this young shooter has, would not have been cured by cooperation and working together.  He is mentally sick.  I hope and pray it never occurs again, but I think it is unrealistic to assume that's the case.

I was so alarmed with Mr. Obama's adgenda and Nancy Pelosi's leadership that I once again got really involved in our party.  I marched, wrote letters, made phone calls, canvassed my precinct and worked hard for the candidates we put forth. We are making a difference and I am once again pleased with the direction we are going.  The battle has just begun but we are committed.  We must put forth an agenda of cooperation and working together.  We can not have any more dreadful episodes like the horrible shooting in Tucson.  That must never be allowed to happen again. We need to be know as the Party of progressives, eager to hear the other side while sticking to our beliefs.

I don't think we need any new laws to control the American people. But We do need control on the area our Rep.speak. As we look back into our country's history we look at John F Kennedy's death. And how open it was just like Rep. Gifford's. Control on who they let in and up close.

I think this will cause more of a problem in our country if they start making more laws to control. They are angry over Government control already. What we need is smaller Government not more laws.
