"You Asked and We Listened"

I have been searching for an answer to what is the opposition to equal pay for women?  Gov. Walker repealed an equal pay bill in Wisconsin.  I am wondering why?

I consider myself a conservative but I believe if a woman can perform equally to a man on any job, the pay should be equal....at least the hourly wage should be equal.

Ray

I am a conservative woman who also is concerned about the Equal Pay issue. Why would Gov. Walker repeal the bill in Wisconsin? I don't have any intentions of voting for Obama, but why oppose equal pay? Is there something in the Lillie Ledbetter Act that would hurt us? If I am concerned, so are the independent women who have not yet decided who to vote for. Romney needs to make women feel more secure on this issue. I am a Fox News junkie but nobody ever speaks about this.

I really don't see anything wrong with the bill.

Hi Ray - I agree with you that if the woman can perform at the same level as a man, she should receive the same pay.  I do know that in a majority of Legislative Bills - whether state or federal - they usually contain a number of unrelated issues - so if a legislature passes a Bill that is later Vetoed - it could be that if signed into law - alot of unwanted issues are then put in place.

I am for no nonsense Legislation that addresses a single issue.  Having worked for State and Federal Government, I can tell you that there is so much nonsense put into the language that even the Law Makers can't understand it all.  Check out the Bill that Governor Walker vetoed - it probably has a bunch of garbage attached to the single issue of Equal Pay.

Women and Equal Pay is a political Liberal tactic. What the Labor Dept does when gathering information is they group all jobs as a whole; such as, a Grocery Check Out Clerk wages, and an Engineer wages are compared. Most women do not go into high risk jobs or high demanding jobs like, Oil Drilling, Construction or Engineering . We take the positions that would most benefit our families and wages are secondary. Studies have shown that women who do the same exact job without leaving the workforce to have children for long periods of time, or change their work schedules do in fact make more money than men. I hope that helps to clarify a bit. I too was outraged when I first heard this, however after looking into it further in makes sense. I look at myself and my friends, we choose work that gives us flexibility to be with our children, wages are second.
