"You Asked and We Listened"

Negotiations are at a gridlock and we are less than 11 hours until the federal government will shutdown.

What are your thoughts on a potential federal government shutdown due to the Democrats’ inability to meet the Republicans proposed spending cuts that are necessary to decrease our national deficit?

Ayn Rand is a complex character and her book, downright dangerous but also revealing about the harsh power of selfishness, and of considering the 'other' as a lesser character.  If you've not seen Mad Men, check it out;   much of Rand's theories drove the advertising agencies of the '50s and '60s - not that the agencies are pristine these days, for sure.  But, often, people are more discerning now.  Rand was also an 'inspiration' to Reagan who slash-and-burn approached the whole reality of a healthy and well-run society with his so-called 'anti-government' rhetoric at the same time he functioned like a dictator.  Let's see;  which is it we are supposed to be?  Democracy?  or Corporatocracy?

someone noted RINO?  When will we be done with that phrase?  And start carefully examining all ideas- instead of the 'they did' and 'they did' counter-productive blame game?

I follow Eisenhower's principles and make no apology for that.  Boring?  excuse me?  When was Eisenhower boring?  Oh, maybe because he did not engage in hate speech, which seems to be the main mantra for the right-wing media these days.

Bob Dole and George McGovern did an interview together on NPR. Compared to the right-wing of today, Bob Dole was positively refreshing. I wonder how many of the Republicans of the past would be Republicans today? Eisenhower, Roosevelt and Nixon would not be. It seems that a lot of this "hate" talk started with Reagan. Tax rates were significantly higher under Eisenhower and  this country was growing and there was more upward mobility. We need to return the Republican party to the days of Eisenhower and Mitt Romney's parents (I believe his father's name was George but I am not sure).
I am on social security and BOTH parties promised to leave it alone and BOTH parties seem content to start on the medicare system.  I am a registered republican as I have earlier stated but to be honest NEITHER party is holding out for us in my eyes.  I plan on voting on the ones that seem to try and keep their campaign promise.  Reckon I am never going to vote again! HA
What is tricky about it is that they say their changes will not affect people who are 55 or over. If they were serious about saving taxpayer's dollars they would make the changes for everyone. They know that older folks vote and that if they cut our Medicare or Social Security, they would lose votes.
