Friday Forum - April 8, 2011

Negotiations are at a gridlock and we are less than 11 hours until the federal government will shutdown.

What are your thoughts on a potential federal government shutdown due to the Democrats’ inability to meet the Republicans proposed spending cuts that are necessary to decrease our national deficit?

They harm teenagers by not REPORTING their abusers... for example when they give abortions to girls as young as 12 and 13...

If I had thought that Planned Parenthood would have reported anything about my rape, I would not have gone there.  I would not be alive to be writing this.

By "volunteer" I mean they are not drafted.  They are fighting and risking their lives voluntarily.  And these soldiers are democrats, republicans and independents.

I think Jay Leno says it all:  "A lot of people wonder what a government shutdown would be like. I think a lot more people wonder what a government running properly would be like."

I believe that democrates can turn this around.  We need to stop the blaming and take back our responsiblity to pay back this deficit.

Harry Reid...Ideological diffferences...That isn't going to do much to reduce our national deficitis it?  I say we need to dig our heels in and stand our ground. If shutting down is what it takes, than that is what it will have to be.  Complete the job you were sent to Washington to...Maybe the Democrates should have been a little more concerned about Planned Parenthood during the past two years when they had both the House and the Senate, not to mention Obama in the White House.  It's high noon!

This activity at the final hour is crazy! Why didn't we have an approved budget Oct 01, 2010 like they are mandated to do.

We send people to DC to represent us, the people, and now we are the victims of an inefficient government that can't even reach a decision on the budget. How can we expect more for Oct 01,2011 when the 2012 budget is due.

We are concerned about wasteful spending yet we will be wasting funds when the government shuts down. What's even worse we can't pay our military. I'm not concerned about parks, the cherry bloosoms, but we can't cut back on our heros. They will be throwing stones instead of shooting bullets.

I don't like the way this question is phrased.  I don't think that there is only one way to address deficit concerns.  Intelligent citizens can disagree on:  the amount of taxes corporations should contribute, the amount of taxes we people should pay, the amount of money we want to spend on war, on social services, on education, on health care, etc.  It's about values.  No one in the country is going to get the exact budget they want.  I am only impressed with elected officials who genuinely understand all the sides in this debate and are working to get the best deal for we the people, not the best deal for their own re-electability.

That is the problem, you nailed it, how and what do I do to get re-elected.  So we should have the policy of not re-electing anyone and that would fix it.  They would never have to worry about re-election just how thier name goes down in history.  Of course that won't fix the ones looking for how much they can make, they are only motivated by money and how much of yours they can have.

I feel that we should not back down, let the government shut down, maybe then....it will awaken some people to obama, let the blame fall on him.   He is so arrogant and ignorant that this shut down is apparant.  Cannot go on spending monies like he wants to.  Dems that run and hide so they don't have to vote (WIS)  this is all just too much.  It is time for a real change now, not a joke change which cost the USA to be a laughing stock, and the garbage with SHARE the wealth, SICKENED by this False administration

I am so glad that Republicans have held their ground and not caved in to pressure. Isn't it interesting that Obama is consistently talking about how Republicans need to compromise?  Last year when Democrats held control of the House, we never heard any of them mention compromising with Republicans. Let the government shut down! As much as Democrat talking heads will try to blame it on Republicans or the Tea Party, I believe Americans want the budget cuts that Republicans have demanded. America won't be fooled. Democrats consistently underestimate the intelligence of the American people. I have read that if the government shuts down Congress will continue to receive their pay but our soldiers won't.  THAT IS SO WRONG!  What a travesty!

What about health care? They wanted single payer and the Republicans had a lot of input coming up with a compromise.
